TULSA, OK – [April 1, 2013, 9:10 p.m. CST] –
Testing Clinic
The Tulsa Health Department’s special testing clinic continued today for former patients of Dr. W. Scott Harrington who may have been exposed to blood borne viruses. 559 patients were screened today for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Nearly 1,000 patients have been screened since the clinic first opened on Saturday. Testing will be available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the North Regional Health and Wellness Center located at 5635 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Patients of Dr. Harrington’s who reside outside of the Tulsa Metro area are advised to contact their local public health department for an appointment for free testing. A directory of Oklahoma’s county health departments is available at http://chds.health.ok.gov.
Most people will be notified of their test results within approximately two weeks. Patients who have given the health department permission to mail negative test results to their home will receive their results in the mail. Anyone who has a positive test result will be personally notified by a professional from the health department to provide more information about the test results and provide recommendations for follow up and care.
Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps
The Tulsa Health Department requested staffing assistance for the testing clinic from the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps, the state’s only medical and public health volunteer program. 23 OKMRC volunteers so far have stepped forward to help in every facet of the testing clinic, including operating the phone bank, drawing blood, non-medical roles and an on-site psychologist. THD would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to those who have volunteered.
