TULSA, OK – [May 2, 2019] – Oklahoma employers, businesses and companies will gather at OU-Tulsa, 4502 East 41 Street, on May 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the 13th annual Make It Your Business Employee Health and Wellness Symposium: Brain, Body, Business.

The conference will help local employers and organizations understand what it takes to create and implement an effective wellness program, how to create a culture of health, and how to inspire and engage their workforce toward behavior change.

“Given that most adults spend nearly half of their waking hours at work and eat several meals and snacks at the workplace, businesses can, and must, actively support the health and wellness of their employees,” said Corey Love, sector specialist, TSET Healthy Living Program serving Tulsa County.

Tulsa University president, Dr. Gerard “Gerry” Clancy will deliver the keynote address. Clancy joined the university in 2015 and launched its Oxley College of Health Sciences where he served as dean until he was named 20th president of the university on November 1, 2016. Regarded as one of Tulsa’s leading advocates of mental health awareness and treatment, Clancy continues to fight for prevention, intervention and direct care for those who suffer from mental illness and brain disease while serving the university. TulsaPeople magazine named him the 2009 “Tulsan of the Year;” and in 2014, he was invited to work on international health disparities with the World Health Organization.

“The most effective way to increase healthy behaviors among employees is to implement workplace wellness policies in tandem with wellness programs,” said Love. “The essential goals of a workplace wellness policy are to increase employees’ access to healthy food, encourage employees to move more and be tobacco free.”

Employers of any size are encouraged to register online for the conference at www.tulsa-health.org/miyb or in person at the event.  Human resource personnel, employee relations committees, wellness and prevention coordinators, productivity managers and human resource consultants will greatly benefit from attending. Registration includes continental breakfast and catered lunch.

The conference is hosted by the Tulsa Health Department and the TSET Healthy Living Program serving Tulsa County. Sponsors include the Tobacco Free Coalition for Tulsa County, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).
