Workplace Wellness

With workers in America today spending more than one-third of their day on the job, employers are in a unique position to promote the health and safety of their employees.

The use of effective workplace wellness programs and policies can reduce health risks and improve the quality of life for employees. Additionally, these programs enhance camaraderie and teamwork, help decrease absenteeism, and can be a fantastic recruitment tool – while decreasing health-related costs.

Working 4 balance

Working 4 Balance (W4B) is the Tulsa Health Department’s internal workplace wellness program. The culture of health at THD includes policies, activities, and expectations to ensure employees (from upper management to entry-level) understand their well-being is important. THD has a dedicated department and staff for employee wellness. An employee wellness committee supports the promotion and facilitation of wellness programs and the wellness advisory committee reviews programs for scientific evidence. THD offers a variety of wellness initiatives; such as health coaching, wellness challenges, ergonomic assessments, classes and health screenings to meet the needs of the agency’s 340 employees. In addition, THD has policies to support physical activity, nutrition, tobacco and nursing mothers.

THD has been a Certified Healthy Oklahoma Business by the Oklahoma State Department of Health and a Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association since 2008 and an Oklahoma Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite since 2018.

W4B is available to offer:

  • Complimentary consultations to companies interested in developing their own workplace wellness programs
  • Health education presentations with a minimum participation.
  • Biometric health screening for a nominal fee and is dependent on the current transmission status of COVID-19 in the community.

Please contact W4B Wellness Coordinator, Nichelle Slavens at nslavens@tulsa-health.org, for more information or to schedule a presentation. Slavens has over thirty years of experience in corporate wellness and looks forward to helping Tulsa employer groups with their wellness needs, whether it is a one-time event or a wellness strategy.
