TULSA, OK – [April 25, 2013] – More than 30 Tulsa-area high school students will showcase their photography skills in a special exhibit, “Flash Focus: A Photo-Documentation Project about Health from the Perspective of Tulsa Youth,” on Friday, April 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the North Regional Health and Wellness Center, 5635 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The event is the third annual Flash Focus. This year’s exhibit focuses on how tobacco affects and impacts the Tulsa community. Last year, the exhibit focused on the relationship between health disparities and “food deserts,” or areas within the Tulsa community where affordable, healthy food is difficult to obtain.
“It’s important to garner the perspective of the impact of health issues through the lens of local youth. This project is also an opportunity to educate young people, indirectly, about the impact of tobacco on the community and the environment,” said Reggie Ivey, Tulsa Health Department chief operating officer. “Every day in Oklahoma, 16 people die due to tobacco-related illnesses. This is a number we are working to reduce and we believe our youth have the power to help in the fight against tobacco.”

All proceeds benefit the Community Health Foundation, which supports local public health initiatives such as childhood obesity prevention, child development, and other health prevention efforts.
